When you are playing your game, you get a chat box like this:

There are different channels for each type of chat...you can set each of these channels to filter your chat in various ways. You can set each channel to see all chat messages, or filter them so you can only see a certain type of chat message. You can filter these by placing your mouse over the tab and right-clicking the channel you want to change (see circled items above). The box below will appear.

To change the channel filter options, from the window above simply place your mouse over the bullet of the filter you want to change. Make sure you choose [OK] when you are done, or [Cancel] if you change your mind..

To talk using these various filters, you can click on the channel you want to talk in (ie. [Guild] or [Group]..) and then press the [Enter] key on your keyboard and the text you wish to write or you can type these commands and the text you want to write regardless of what channel you are in:

/gu lets you speak in [Guild]

/g lets you speak in [Group]

/b lets you speak in [Broad] (blue text with **before and after**)

/s or /say lets you talk to anyone around you and is useful for talking to NPC's

/whisper lets you whisper to people, only you and that person can see the text, this is also useful for talking to NPC's

/send [name] lets you send a private message to a person, you can respond by pressing 'R' and the text you want to type

/tell [name] does the same as /send [name]

/bc or /bu lets you talk in [BGroup] or battle groups, something you will encounter in RvR and on raids

/c lets you talk in [Chat] groups, used often for private conversations
