How to Lead a Raid

What armor can my character wear? Why can't my character wear a certain armor?

In Dark Age of Camelot, you will discover that different characters can wear different types of armor. In Hibernia, there are four types if armor, Cloth, Leather, Reinforced, and Scale. Armor wears out in battle and you out grow it as you level up your character.

First lets talk about the types of armor and what your character can wear...

Cloth Armor is very light and highly favored by casters (enchanters, eldritches, mentalists, animists, valewalkers, and bainshees), everyone can wear cloth armor, but that is not always the best choice. Cloth armor does not protect you in battle very well, so mainly casters wear this type of armor.

Leather Armor is a little heavier than cloth and protects you a somewhat better in battle, only casters cannot wear leather armor. Usually, Minotaurs, Nightshades and Vampiirs wear Leather Armor, as it offers better protection than cloth and is easier to move around in than Reinforced and Scale armors.

Reinforced Armor is much heavier than cloth and offers more protection in battle than cloth and leather. Reinforced armor is a mixture between Leather and Scale armors, Bards, Blademasters and Rangers tend to prefer the protection that Reinforced armor offers while still being able to move easier than Scale.

Scale Armor gives the best protection of any armor, but is heavy and cumbersome. Hero's, Warden's, Druid's and Champion's wear Scale armor, these classes have the strength to wear Scale, which is the heaviest of them all.

Q. How do I know what level my armor is?

A. The
Armor Factor [AF] of the armor will tell you what level any piece of armor is. Armor will also 'con' differently to different level players, this will also tell you if your armor still 'fits' you.

For example you find a piece of armor that says it is [AF] 40 and it is scale armor, this means that the armor is level 20 armor and would best fit a level 20 character.

You may also find a piece of armor that is [AF] 20 and it says it is cloth armor, this means that the armor is level 20 and would best fit a level 20 character.

 Confused yet?

Cloth armor offers little to no protection in battle and the Armor Factor of it will be equal to the level of the armor. So as another example [AF] 40 cloth armor would be for a level 40 character.

Leather, Reinforced and Scale armors offer more protection than cloth armor and their Armor Factor is twice the level of the armor. As another example [AF] 70 leather armor would be for a level 35 character.

Q. I am level 50 and my armor says [AF] 102 and clamped 100, what does this mean?

A. It means you have not opened up the full potential of your armor. When a character achieves Realm Rank 5, they open up a whole new world, and one of the benefits of being RR5 is that your armor is a higher [AF], it essentially makes your armor and some weapons level 51 items. If you are not RR5, they are only level 50 items.

Q. I looked at my the armor my character is wearing and the text was in 'grey' for some, and 'blue' for others... what does that mean?

A. As you level your character up, their armor needs change, the 'color' of the armor will tell you if your armor is too 'small' or too 'big' for you.

Your armor will 'con' one of these colors for you:

Grey -  you have outgrown it and it is more than 15 levels below your characters level, this will not protect you well in battle. This armor will wear out slowly.

Green - you have outgrown it and it is more than 10 levels below your characters level, this will not protect you well in battle. This armor will wear out slowly.

Blue - you have outgrown it and it is more than 5 levels below your characters level, this will not protect you well in battle. This armor will wear out slowly.

Yellow - this armor 'fits' you perfectly, it is approximately your level and offers you the best protection in battle. This armor will wear out normally.

Orange - this armor is more than 1 level above your characters level, it will 'fit' you but will wear out faster than armor that 'fits'.

Red - this armor is more than 5 levels above your characters level and will protect you well in battle, but will wear out quickly.

Purple/Grape - this armor is more than 10 levels above your characters level and will protect you well in battle, but it will wear out extremely fast and will not work as well.

Armor does wear out and has to be repaired by a smith, or in some cases other players can repair it for you. Armor has 'Cond' (condition) 'Qual' (quality) and 'Dur' (durability).

Condition - armor in good condition will protect you well (98% - 100%), as the condition lowers, you will get hit harder by mobs and players (if you RvR)

Quality - better quality armor will protect you better as well, quality never changes, but when buying armor 99% - 100% quality is favored

Durability - this goes down the more you repair an item, when the durability is at 0%, that item is broken and you will need to replace it.
