How do I decorate my house and add merchants?

Now that you have your house and have paid rent, lets work on merchants and decorations.

Merchants:

Before you do anything else to your house, if you wish to sell your wares from crafting or that you find in your travels to other players, you will need a Consignment Merchant (CM) and a porch. To buy a porch and a CM, go to the Meath market in housing and speak to Caelum and ask for a porch deed and a CM (see Housing Costs for information on costs).

To place your porch your house must be free of any decorations, inside or out. Pick a side of your house, left or right facing the door. Left-click on the porch deed in your inventory and drag it to either side of the house, left-click again to place your porch. Congratulations, you now have a porch to place your CM on!

To place your CM, simply left-click on him in your inventory and drag him to the porch, left-click on your porch now to place your CM.

VERY IMPORTANT: Once you place your CM, type /listmerchant. This will list anything you decide to sell on the housing Market Explorers.

To place merchants and other NPC's (non-player characters) inside your house you need to shift + right-click on any wall, a pop-up will appear when you do this.

Left-click on Hookpoints and a little swirl will appear on the ground where tools and NPC's can be placed. Simply left-click on a NPC or tool in your inventory and drag it to the swirl on the floor then left-click again to drop it.

If you have not purchased a merchant yet, right-click on the swirl that you wish to place a NPC or tool on and a window will pop-up. Simply select the merchant/tool you want to purchase and click buy. Certain hookpoints can only have certain items on them, each level of house has a set amount of tools, NPC's and vaults they can have. (see Housing for more info)

Tools:

There are 3 different types of tools you can put in your house, a Lathe, a Forge and an Alchemy Table. These are used to craft. These can only be put on specific hookpoints.

Vaults:

Each level of house can have a certain number of vaults, these vaults are located in their own room below stairs. With hookpoints turned on (shift + right-click on any wall and select Hookpoints from the pop-up menu) right-click on the hookpoint swirl and purchase a vault. Once you have the vault, left-click the vault in your inventory and drag it to a vault hookpoint swirl and left-click to drop it. If you want to turn your vault a certain direction, you can angle yourself in accordance with the way you want it to face (any item you drop will automatically face you, so if you are south and you want an item to face north, you need to move north of the hookpoint before you drop it).

Trophys:

If you have trophys (remains from mobs you have killed or aquired that you take to a Taxidermist) you can place them in your house. There is no set place to put trophies, although, some are wall trophies and some are floor trophies (their name once made into a trophy will designate where they go). You do have a limited number of items you can place per house, inside and outside. If you want to turn a trophy once you place it, shift + right-click on it and a pop-up will appear that will allow you to adjust the way it faces.

Interior Decorations:

You can adjust the look of your home and add shields and banners stating which guild you belong to, as well as add carpets and moveable decorations. To adjust the look of your house inside shift + right-click on a wall, a pop-up will appear. Simply use the arrows in the window to adjust the carpet color and add or remove guild banners and shield. If you wish to place furniture or paintings and such, select the Store option. Another window will appear and you can purchase decorations for the interior of your house (if you buy something and you end up not liking it, do not worry, any item purchased in the house store can be sold back at full purchase price).

To place decorations inside, all you need to do is left-click on the item you wish to place then left-click the wall or floor area you want to place it on (note: your mouse will be the approximate center of the item).

You can also place copies of your weapons on the walls, simply left-click on the item in your inventory and drag it to the wall you wish to place it on and left-click again, a replica of your weapon will appear while the real weapon stays on you (note: double left-click on the weapon to remove it, doing this will not make the weapon appear in your pack.) You can adjust the way these items face by shift + right-clicking on them, a pop-up will appear allowing you to change their direction.

Exterior Decorations:

You can adjust the way your house looks on the outside by changing the look of the walls and roof, there are many combinations you can make to make your home unique.

To place exterior decorations, while standing outside your home, shift + right-click on the wall and a window will appear. Select Garden to open the garden merchant window. Two windows will appear when you select Garden, the garden merchant window and a garden map of your home. When you purchase a garden item use the garden map to place it, the garden map is a birds eye view of the exterior of your home and makes it so you can easily place items without moving all over the place.

To place an item on your garden map, simply left-click on it in your inventory and drag it to the spot in your garden you wish to place it on, then left-click to drop it. You can left-click the item again toremove it and it will go back to your inventory. To rotate an item, simply shift + left-click the item on your garden map and it will change the direction it faces.

Different items take up different amounts of space. A tree will take up 1 square while a fountain may take up 9 squares. You also cannot stack items on top of one another, if an item overlaps another item, the square icon on the garden map will turn from green (ok to place) to red (not ok to place).
