I am looking to get a new laptop that I can play games on. I don't have the room for a desktop PC so needs to be a laptop. I don't have any experience with laptops so any help would be appreciated. I had a look on newegg but not sure what would be best. Budget is $800-$1000.

Both Lenovos feature LED backlit screens which will save a lot of power and both already have Windows 7 Home Premium installed on them which is much nicer than Vista. The Asus is a nice laptop for the money but the video card isn't nearly as good as either of the Lenovos and you'd have to go through the hassle of using the upgrade to Win7 that comes with it.

Is it best to get a stand/cooler for the laptop? I don't have a desk to put it on and am guessing it will get hot quickly while positioned on my lap?

Tenebrae and I both use our laptops while we are propped-up in bed. I looked for a pre-made "lap-desk", but I never was able to find one as big as I wanted. So, I went to Home Depot, and bought some 1/4" MDF scrap (medium density fiberboard). Total cost... about 5 bucks. I cut it to a 24"x16" rectangle - and rounded off the edges and corners with sandpaper. The rectangle is wider than the laptop to give space for a mouse pad. It's deeper (front-back) to offer a little "twisting protection" for the power cord and USB plugs hanging out the back. Double-tempered masonite would even be better than the MDF, but its harder to find (single tempered is fuzzy on one side... and you don't want that).

Advice on use? After a couple of hours, it can be hard on your knees (if you are playing in bed), so put a small pillow under your knees, so they are bent at a slight angle. And then flip a blanket over your knees for padding.

Added benefit? If you turn on your computer 1 hour before you actually play, and leave it (and the board) on the bed... it will make a nice warm spot for your feet ... heh heh...

Be sure to start out with all the settings set to max framerate... then add things back one at a time. If you want an invite for your trial guy too... just let us know smile.gif
